When to Schedule Your Pool Opening

Most pool openings in the Waterloo Region are scheduled between April and the end of May, with limited availability extending into June. Because demand increases quickly as spring temperatures rise, the best time to schedule your pool opening is as early as possible, even if your preferred opening date is later in the season. Booking your pool opening early helps secure your preferred date and ensures your system is professionally started up as soon as conditions allow.

Why Early Pool Opening Matters

Opening your pool earlier—before the water warms up—reduces algae growth and makes start-up faster and cleaner. As water temperatures rise, algae develops more aggressively, which can lead to extra cleaning, additional chemicals, or follow-up service after your opening. Booking early allows your pool to be opened at the optimal time, minimizes complications, and helps ensure your system is professionally started up as soon as conditions allow—before peak demand limits availability.

What's Included in Our Pool Opening Service

We professionally open all pool types, including inground, on-ground, above-ground, vinyl-liner, fiberglass, and concrete pools.

A standard pool opening typically takes 60–90 minutes, depending on pool size, pool cover, and equipment configuration.

Every pool opening follows a complete start-up checklist to safely restart your system, inspect equipment, and prepare your pool for the swimming season.

Pool Cover Removal & Preparation

  • Pump off cover, brush and remove standing debris
  • Remove cover, fold, and store in a designated area
  • Place algaecide in vinyl cover bin (as required)

Pool Fittings & Hardware Reinstallation

  • Remove winter plugs
  • Reinstall jet eyeballs, skimmer baskets, and return fittings
  • Install pool lights and test operation
  • Reinstall deck equipment, excluding diving boards and above-ground stairs

Equipment Reinstallation & Start-Up

  • Install pump plugs, cartridges, pressure gauges, and related fittings
  • Reinstall salt cell, chlorinator, or brominator (if applicable)
  • Start circulation system and check for leaks or errors

Water Treatment & Initial Start-Up

  • Add opening chemical kit: algaecide/clarifier, stain & scale remover, oxidizer (shock)
  • Add salt, chlorine, or other chemicals upon request
  • Verify circulation system is running properly

System Check & Recommendations

  • Perform visual inspection of pool and equipment
  • Confirm all equipment is operating correctly
  • Identify signs of wear, damage, or potential issues
  • Recommend next steps, including service or repairs if needed

Pool Opening FAQs

We open pools in Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph, as well as surrounding communities across Waterloo Region, Wellington and Perth County. If you’re outside these areas, contact us and we will confirm service—additional travel fee may apply. 

We remove the cover, reconnect equipment, start up the system, check for leaks, and add initial opening chemicals so your pool is ready to balance and clean.

We open inground, onground and above-ground pools. If your pool has unusual features (waterfalls, attached spa, custom plumbing), mention it when you book.

Yes. As part of your pool opening, we start up and verify operation of your pump, filter, and heater.

If the water level is too low to reach the skimmer, we use a temporary intake tube to safely test the system. Once operation is confirmed, we shut the system down and remove the tube while the pool continues filling. When the water reaches the proper level, the system can be turned back on and operated as normal.

For gas heaters, the gas supply must be turned on before we arrive so we can properly test the heater. We don’t turn the gas on as part of the opening.

Most customers book openings between April and the end of May. If you use a heater or want an early start, book early to secure your preferred date.

A typical pool opening takes about 60–90 minutes, depending on pool size, condition and equipment.

Please provide clear access to the pool (gate unlocked, path clear, pets secured). Make sure we can access the equipment, and have any parts we’ll need set out (ladders, skimmer baskets, return fittings, etc.).

Please ensure there’s a working water source available—outdoor water turned on for the season, with a hose connected and ready to fill the pool.

You do not need to be home for a pool opening as long as we have access to the pool, equipment and any parts we need. If we do need you there, we’ll let you know when booking.

We can still open your pool even if the weather is cool. If there’s a risk of a late frost, we’ll advise you on simple freeze-protection steps (like keeping water circulating and protecting exposed equipment) based on the forecast.

Yes. We can schedule a follow-up visit on a separate day to vacuum the pool, brush surfaces, and balance the water to help get your pool swim-ready after the opening. Just let us know when you book that you’d like to add a cleaning visit.

Please note: green/black or very cloudy water may require additional chemicals and multiple visits to clear.
