Our pool closing service follows a comprehensive winterization checklist designed to help protect your pool during the winter season.

• Drain water below the lowest return port (skimmer bottom on fiberglass)

• Blow out underground lines

• Install a crush-prevention device in the skimmer (Gizzmo)

• Install winterizing plugs in returns and skimmer

• Add closing-kit chemicals, including algaecide, stain & scale remover, and oxidizer

• Anti-freeze application (when required)

• Install pool cover and water bags (if applicable)

• Winterize (drain) pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator of all water

• Store pool accessories with pool equipment

This pool closing checklist helps reduce the risk of freeze damage, staining, and costly spring repairs.

No extensive cleaning is required before your pool closing. Removing large debris, such as leaves, is helpful, but our team handles the steps needed to properly winterize your pool during the service.

If you’d prefer not to handle any cleaning, we offer pool cleaning before closing so this step can be taken care of for you.

Please ensure we have access to the pool area and that pets are secured. If you have a safety cover or winter tarp, have it available on site before your appointment.

No. As long as we have access to the pool area and required equipment, you do not need to be home during the service.

In the Waterloo Region, pool closings typically begin in early September. Appointment availability often becomes limited as temperatures start to drop, with the busiest period running from late September through mid-October. We recommend booking as soon as possible to avoid delays.

Closings can still be scheduled later in the season, but once freezing temperatures arrive, options may be more limited due to increased freeze risk.

A standard pool closing takes approximately 45–90 minutes depending on pool size and equipment.

If freezing temperatures occur before your scheduled closing, there is an increased risk of freeze damage to your pool lines and equipment, and in some cases water in exposed lines may already begin to freeze. This is why we strongly recommend booking early in the season to reduce cold-weather risk and avoid last-minute issues.

Yes. We offer hot tub and spa closing services, including draining, line blow-out, antifreeze where needed, and cover installation, to help protect your spa through the winter. You can add spa closing when you book your pool closing so both are taken care of in a single visit.

Late-season pool closings may still be possible, but availability becomes limited once freezing temperatures arrive. If your pool has already been exposed to freezing conditions, it may not be possible to confirm whether water has frozen inside underground lines or equipment.

In these situations, we can still perform the closing, but we may not be able to offer the same level of protection as with a pre-freeze closing. Contact us as soon as possible and we’ll review your situation and let you know what options are available.

Yes. We close inground, onground and above-ground pools. If your pool has unusual features (waterfalls, attached spa, custom plumbing), mention it when you book so we can confirm pricing and timing.
